Cambodian Currency

The Kingdom of Cambodia has its own currency to entirely circulate through the country. The national currency is Riel “KHR”. The use of national currency in economic is very important to promote and implement Cambodia’s monetary policy. On the other hand, Cambodia exchange rate policy is managed floating regime in order to achieve the price stability.

The banks and agency have to register to get the authorization to operate their business as money exchange. Basically, people in Cambodia prefer to exchange from Riel to USD and via versa. The exchanges rate of this two currency approximately 4000R=USD1, and it keeps changing day by day, for example, the today (27 Febraury 2017) rate is 4008 KHR / USD. Below currencies are the ten types of Cambodian currency.

KHR 50 note

The note sizes 130 x 60 mm with dark brown and tan. The Preah Vihear Temple is the front-symbol of the note and dam at the backside. This KHR 50 note rarely sees in daily transaction due to the depreciation of itself. It is the smallest note.

KHR 100 note

The KHR 100 note colors purple, brown and green with the front of the independent monument and reverse of school as symbols. The size of this note is 130 x 60 mm. The note is circulating in Cambodia market. The KHR 100 note is the second note counting from the smallest note out of national currency.

KHR 500 note

The KHR 500 note colors red and purple with the two different symbols of the front- Angkor Wat and reverse- Kizuna bridge over the Mekong. The size of this note is 138 x 64 mm. The note is circulating in Cambodia market. The KHR 500 note is the third from the smallest note out of national currency.

KHR 1, 000 note

The KHR 1,000 note colors brown and lilac with the two different symbols of the front- Southern gate at Bayon and reverse- Kizuna bridge Autonomous Port of Kampong Saom. The size of this note is 138 x 64 mm. The note is circulating in Cambodia market. The KHR 1,000 note is the four from the smallest note out of national currency. KHR 1,000 note equal USD 0.25.

KHR 2, 000 note

The KHR 2,000 note colors green, black and yellow with the two different symbols of the front- Prasat Preah Vihear and reverse- Angkor Wat and Field Work. The size of this note is 146 x 68 mm. The note is circulating in Cambodia market. The KHR 2,000 note is the four from the smallest note out of national currency. KHR 2,000 note equal USD 0.50.

KHR 5, 000 note

The KHR 5,000 note colors green and gray with the two different symbols of the front- Norodom Sihanouk and reverse- Bridge of Kampong Kdei. The size of this note is 146 x 68 mm. The note is circulating in Cambodia market. The KHR 5,000 note is the four from the smallest note out of national currency. KHR 5,000 note equal USD 1.25.

KHR 10, 000 note

The KHR 10,000 note colors violet, brown and blue with the two different symbols of the front- Norodom Sihanouk and reverse- Royal Palace. The size of this note is 146 x 68 mm. The note is circulating in Cambodia market. The KHR 10,000 note is the four from the smallest note out of national currency. KHR 10,000 note equal USD 2.50.

KHR 20, 000 note

The KHR 20,000 note colors violet and white with the two different symbols of the front- Norodom Sihanouk and reverse- Royal Palace. The size of this note is 155 x 72 mm.
